Our beliefs, mission, vision, and purpose can be summed up in one phrase: One God, One People, One Passion!
One God.
We believe in the one true God of the inerrant Holy Bible, represented in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We believe that salvation comes only through faith in Jesus Christ.
“Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.” Deuteronomy 6:4
“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,” 1 Timothy 2:5
“That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
“For it is by grace you have been saved through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8
We invite people to learn more about the One God at our weekly corporate worship service where the Word of God is taught.
One People.
We believe that the Gospel/Good News of Jesus Christ is for everyone. We believe that ALL people no matter their ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or sin background can come together to worship and know the One true God. We believe this is what heaven will look like. We believe we will be a better church and community by embracing our diversity as we go through life together.
“And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.” 2 Corinthians 5:15
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Acts 2:42
“Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another.” Romans 12:15-16b
We invite people to join each other in community, to be unified in their pursuit of God, sharing life in small group Bible studies and Sunday School classes.
One Passion.
We believe there is no greater command than to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves. We believe that love is not a feeling, but an action. To love is to serve. Simply put, Love God, Love People.
“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” Deuteronomy 6:5
“One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:28-31
”In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise yur Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
“ Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,” Matthew 25:35
We invite people to serve their church on a ministry team, our community in our everyday lives and through outreach and service projects, and our world through mission trips.
History
In the Fall of 1951, a group of believers living in the once rural Spring Branch community began praying that God would establish a new work in the area. The group through the efforts of the Union Baptist Association began to look for land and found 6.2 wooded acres with a cottage. First Baptist Church Houston sponsored the purchase of the property, and the land was bought for $35,000. Immediately the cottage began being used for Sunday School and Worship. On June 1, 1952, fifty-six members from FBC Houston became the core group for the mission.
Over the next several years, the church flourished and grew at a rapid rate. It started a day school and built the Johnson Building and chapel. In June, 1955 the mission was self sustaining and organized into an independent church. In the 60’s plans were completed and work began on the sanctuary and educational building. The church continued to thrive and weekly Sunday School attendance peaked at 1100 members a week and the weekly worship services were broadcast on local television.
As the demographics of the city and community changed, the church began a gradual decline in membership. The school moved in 1996 after 40+ years of ministry. In the early 2000s the church struggled so much that it closed its membership and rented the chapel to a local funeral home. Though they struggled, they did not give up. The harvest of a new diverse community was plentiful, but the workers were few. The church hired new staff with a new vision to reach the new community . Most importantly, the few members left prayed and prayed for a miracle.
After a year of negotiations with HFBC, that miracle came on November 14, 2008, when the members of LPBC signed a contract giving the property back to HFBC. HFBC has since began renovating the facilities and moved their Missions Training Center (currently the Faith Center) to LPBC. The once empty buildings are now being fully used in serving people from all walks of life. Through the mighty hand of God, the church is once again growing!
